Background

"I was sitting in a taxi, wondering if I had overdressed for the evening, when I looked out the window to see Mom rooting through a Dumpster." The Glass Castle by Jeanette Walls is a memoir about the hardships and adventures she had as a child and how she eventually overcame all of this and had the determination to create a successful life on her own. While Jeanette might have different ideals then her parents, she describes them with deep affection despite their stubborn nonconformity. Her story shows how, against all odds, she triumphs and a tale of a family who despite their flaws have unconditional love for each other.
